Frequently Asked Questions
When will I get my olive oil? What is the process of olive oil tree adoption?
You can adopt a whole olive oil tree or half a tree. An adopter of a whole tree receives 4 cans of olive oils, each in one-quart contain (total 4 quarts), and half tree adopter 2 cans (total 2 quarts). Within 5 business days of your order a certificate of adoption will be mailed to you. The certificate will name you as the adopter of the tree (or half tree) for the harvest circle the year of adoption.
Harvest-cycle ends with the harvest at the end of January, and the process of packaging, shipping and distribution takes about six to eight weeks. Adopters should expect to receive your olive oil around February to March. Approximately one week before shipping of olive oil from our NY distribution center, we will send adopters address verification reminder email. Adopters should login to their accounts to verify the receiving addresses. After that, olive oils will be shipped to the addresses indicated in the accounts.

Should I adopt more than one tree? How long will 4 quarts (or 2 quarts) of olive oil last me?
That depends on how much and how often you use it. If you cook five times a week at home, you'll probably go through 4 quarts of oil in about six months. Our own families consume an average of 16 quarts per year. We use olive oil for cooking, baking, salad dressing and to preserve various other foods. So how much you'll use really depends on your lifestyle. Check out our recipes section for some cooking ideas.
Can I split a whole tree to 2 half trees?
We are unable to give you two half-tree adoptions for the price of one whole-tree. The majority of the cost difference is for handling adoption orders, and we appreciate your understanding. If you need to adopt two half-trees, please arrange two orders of half-tree adoptions. Likewise we cannot ship olive oils from one whole-tree orders to multiple addresses. You can order multiple half-tree adoptions, and each can be addressed to a different recipient.
Can I order a container individually?
Sorry, we don't offer individual sale at the moment. Adopting a whole-tree gives you 4 quarts (4 one-quart containers) of olive oil; adopting half-tree gives you 2 one-quart containers.
Gourmet olive oils cost at least twice as much, maybe five times more. Why is your olive oil so affordable?
That is because we have no middleman marking up the price. Our goal is to share our artisan olive oil with extended-families and friends. We the farmers will deliver the olive oil directly to you, and our prices simply reflect our core concept.
How good is the olive oil? Is it extra-virgin?
Our olive oil meets and exceeds the requirements of EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) and PDO (Protected Destination Origin). It has a very low acidity of 0.21% (minimum to be considered extra virgin is 0.80%), which guarantees freshness and quality. It's also cold extracted (with temperature not exceeding 77F degrees while the requirement for "cold extract" is 87.8F degrees or less). Lower temperature means less production but more quality of the end product. What you actually get is an exceptionally rare product that's produced with utmost care and never mixed with other oils. Here are 9 Reasons to Love Our Olive Oil.
How should I store my olive oil?
Unlike wine, olive oil is better when fresh, and its great taste lasts for about 15 months if you store it correctly. Minimize the exposure to air, and store it in a cool place, away from light. Our 1-quart tin container assures the maximum protection from the elements that can degrade the quality of the olive oil.
Am I actually getting the olive oil produced from "my" olive oil tree?
You're getting the olive oil produced from a number of trees that stands near your tree. This is because olive harvest is done for a group of trees at a time. Every time enough olives are gathered from a few trees, the olives are brought to the local olive oil mill, where the olive oil is produced and packaged in containers. Farmers run this process a few times a day during the harvest season.
Where are the actual farms? Can I visit them?
The farms are on the hills of the greater Kalamata area in Greece. Although there are no set tours or lodging, the farmers will be delighted to meet you. Let us know if you are in the area and want to drop by, and we can arrange a time that works for all. Next year we will try to put the GPS locations of all the boundaries of groves on Google Maps so you can see them while you sit comfortably at home. This is one of the groves.
Can I order Adoption without registering?
Registration is mandatory. Your adopted olive oil tree wants to know where you are all the time. The email address is just as important so we can contact you to verify the shipping address before the delivery.
Can I cancel the order of Adoption?
It is very sad to hear that you want to abandon your adopted tree, but if you must, please email us at support@myoliveoiltree.com with subject "cancel request", and please include your name, shipping address, your email address, phone number, and the order number. We cannot process the request if any of the information is missing. Please see the Terms and Conditions page for details.
